Owaka Waka

Owaka Going Forward committee

The Owaka waka is designed by Russell Beck, of Invercargill. The commemorative statue is 11m long and 7m high. It was constructed by Invercargill company Crown Sheetmetal and took more than 370-man hours. The sculpture was made in three parts; the hull, outrigger and sail. The sculptures designer is former Southland Museum and Art Gallery director and artist Russell Beck.
